Over the past two years we have seen the era of pop girls come back. For a long time music had become a male dominated field. It has felt like the era of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, and more had come to an end. However, some new girls have not only made a name for themselves but changed the music game recently. Some artists have completely rebranded themselves such as Tate McRae and Sabrina Carpenter.
Tate McRae started making music in the late 2010s. Her music has appealed to the times of being moody and different. One of her biggest songs to date is called ‘You Hurt Me First.’ She has now shifted to more flashy, in your face pop. Sabrina Carpenter has had to rebrand from her youthful Disney image. Many Disney stars have to break away from that image but struggle to do so without significant backlash. Sabrina, however, has been able to do so successfully. She has rebranded into a flirty, playful pop style.

Other pop stars like Taylor Swift and Zara Larsson have made a comeback. Taylor Swift started as a country star but has made waves by rerecording her music. Her music is owned by her old label and so she just decided to rerecord it. Which led to her multi billion dollar tour called the ‘Eras Tour.’ Zara Larsson has made a comeback with her most recent collaboration ‘Stateside’ with PinkPantheress and her song ‘Lush Life’ has been revamped by social media app TikTok. A dance was made to the song which made it take off once more.

Then we have some new artists bringing back what the olden days of pop was like. Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are examples of that. Olivia Rodrigo got her start on Disney as an actress but after getting her role on ‘High School Musical: The Musical’ she started making more music. Her music has dived into common pop topics of love and heart ache but also the trials and tribulations of what it is like to be a woman. Chappell Roan has brought back the feeling of what Lady Gaga gave. She brought another era of gay pop that was once lost.

Finally, a new era of pop is here brought by KATSEYE and Adéla. They bring what many see as “camp” pop. Both came from something called Dream Academy. KATSEYE took off in 2024 with their album “Sis.” Even getting two Grammy nominations while only being in the industry for two years. However, Adéla has only just taken off with her most recent hits ‘Ain’t in LA’ and ‘Nicole Kidman.’
The era of pop has come back and bolder than ever and created a new type of competition at award shows.
