A night out on the town and a trip to your favorite restaurant are typically what first come to mind when you think about date night. However, what if instead of going out, you stayed in your PJs and crafted something together that can be kept for years and years. When a candlelit dinner starts to feel a bit repetitive, why not look towards what humans do best… create! Whether you are looking for something simple or a little more creative, here are some craft ideas that can turn an ordinary date night into something filled with laughter, color, and perhaps even a little mess.
Paint Each Other

Now, at first, this choice may seem a little intimidating. You may feel as if you aren’t skilled enough to paint a human face. However, that’s exactly what makes it perfect for fun. The point isn’t to make it perfect but to do your best! All you need is some paint, paint brushes, a water cup, a paper towel, and two canvases. Sit across from each other and paint away. Don’t forget to look up from time to time in order to get the eye color right. Once finished, reveal them one at a time and get ready for the laughter to start rolling! Above is an example my mom and dad did, and let’s just say in no way were they accurate, but that’s also what made it fun!
Tie Blankets

Tie blankets are a great way to have something you can make together, but they can also be used for years to come. To start, measure, if you don’t already know, whoever is taller. You don’t want the taller individual’s toes to get cold! Once you know, go to your nearest craft store and pick out your favorite blanket fabric. When getting it cut, if you want a square blanket, just say you want it cut however tall the tallest person is by the same number. Otherwise, just choose how wide you want your blanket to be! Then, once you get home, all you will need is scissors. Cut mostly equal-width fridges along all sides of both pieces of fabric. To ensure they lie up when you go to tie them, make sure when you do the cutting that both pieces of fabric are seamlessly together. Once your fridges are cut, just tie one fridge from one side to the other.
Clay Sculpting

This activity may be one that would appeal to the more competitive couples. All you will need is air-dry or oven-bake clay, paint if it is uncolored, and an electronic device (phone, tablet, computer, etc). With your clay in front of you, look up small clay sculpture ideas. Once you have your inspiration in front of you, start sculpting! To make it competitive, see who can make one that matches the inspiration photo the best. Once done, leave your beautiful piece of art out to dry or put it in the oven to be baked (most packages of oven-baked clay have the directions on the container). Once dry, if your clay is uncolored, take some time to liven up your creations with some paint.
Hand-Print Canvases

This is a cute craft idea to remember the date you first started your journey together. All you need is two canvases that fit whoever’s hand in the largest, some paint, painter’s tape, and paint markers. To begin, paint the entirety of your canvases whatever you want your background color to be. Next, place a piece of painters’ tape across the width of the canvas just about in the center. Then, with a color that complements your background, paint whoever’s hand is biggest first. That’s right, paint your actual hand. Once the hand is covered, place it on the canvas to leave a print. Try to ensure that the tape will fall around the middle of your hand print. Then do the same with the smallest hand. Place the painted hand right on top of the first hand print. Then, once the paint is dry, pull off the piece of tape. In the blank space that was left by the tape, write your anniversary date.

Draw And Switch
This craft idea is fun because the outcomes are unpredictable. This is also a very low-cost idea! All you need is a piece of paper and a pencil, or if you want to liven it up, markers are a great choice as well. First, choose how much time each person will have to draw. Once that is decided, start the timer and start drawing. When the time is up, switch your pieces of paper. Now, you both have to pick up where the other left off. While you may have been drawing a unicorn, your significant other may turn it into a narwhal. The possibilities are endless.
