The Whim of the Story

The Whim of the Story

Alexandria Richardson

I look at their website and see so many amazing works

They say you can write anything

But I don’t know what to write, at least not yet

I love stories and poems

Articles and research

The fun of exploring your style

Trying new things

But it’s such a commitment

Choosing to rhyme what you say

With no time to play

Around

Describing everything in a perfect picture

Like the bumpy edges of a golden brown hue frame that’s been sitting on your dusty pale wood shelf every year. It has the same photo, one of your 4 siblings all standing in a row from tallest to shortest, left to right, smiling and laughing in the moments when your mom says cheese. Because you decided that picture, you decided that frame, and you decided that location was perfect.

Writing something whimsical like the spring breeze lightly picking up with a rainy fog just breaching the sunlight, having you remember the time of love and sentiment

Researching every detail to put in your research paper, you worked so hard on! Find all the perfect points to art, fashion, movies, plays, shows, myths, legends, locations, or just problems in the world!

There are so many great ideas! How do you just pick one! Stick to your idea forever and post a different version of it every week! How do I feel confident that I will ever be on THEIR level! How do I STOP DOUBTING MYSELF!

… but then I stop

She invites me to be part of the group

“Come to the meeting today, and I can tell you all about us”

That’s all it took for me to try it

Just once, I wanted to try something

More than me

And you meet them

And they’re all just like you

Passionate

Caring

Kind

A student

A friend

Nothing more, nothing less

They have jobs, classes, homework, problems,

Drama, stories, minds, hands

They have everything you have

They just chose to use it here!

They are volunteers who do something they love

And want you to do the same

They are people who are a part of something creatively amazing and want you to join in on the fun!

Don’t forget this!

Don’t forget this moment

Breathe it in

Enjoy it

And put yourself out there

Let yourself be accepted by them

Let yourself finally be a part of something

And write!

I open up my laptop and start

“The Whim of the Story”
