Fall Vibes in Media

Fall Vibes in Media

Moriah Valentine

Even though stores have already taken down their Halloween decorations so they can play Christmas music and start selling black friday items at an upcharge, I am still in a Halloween mood (and will always be). Though for the sake of not being too repetitive in my recommendations, I’ll pivot it a little to more autumn-related pieces of media. Though I am basing this on vibes mostly.

It’s What’s Inside

[ Directed by Greg Jardin | 2024 | R | 1:43]

What was supposed to be a lovely party between this group of friends before one of them gets married, turns quickly into a horrific sequence of events when someone the group hasn’t seen in years brings a strange game with him.

Knives out

[Directed by Rian Johnson | 2019 | PG-13 | 2:10]

During the will reading of the renowned crime novelist, Harlen Thrombey, a detective is hired to investigate the situation around his passing. Though no one can really tell who hired Benoit Blanc to solve the case.

It is about time to rewatch this

The residence

[Directed by Liza Johnson and Jaffar Mahmood | 2025 | TV-MA | Mini Series ]

Detective Cordelia Cupp has roughly eight hours to solve the murder of the Chief Usher for the White House. Which might be a difficult task, as there is a state dinner being held on the floor below.

It also wouldn’t really be fall without mentioning one of my favorite movies: Clue (1985). I will be rewatching this tonight.

Mystery Novels

How to Survive a Horror Story – Mallory Arnold

Seven authors are invited to the reading of horror author Mortimer Queen’s will. Though they each expect different things to come out of this night, they are met with a game. Solve a riddle, and move forward. Or don’t, and let the house eat you 🙂

The bone houses – Emily Llyod Jones

A gravedigger and a mapmaker walk into a forest to stop a curse or die trying. Not too difficult if you ignore the corpses that keep rising from the dead and following them.

The corruption of hollis brown – K. Ancrum

This sweet boy, Hollis Brown, with no hopes or dreams, gets possessed by a stranger named Walt. The two attempt to work together to seem normal to those in Hollis’ life, but some are worried about him.

SpiritFarer

As the ferrymaster to the afterlife, Stella is given a ship and tasks to aid spirits on their journey to passing. Whether the goal is for comfort, playing a mini-game, farming, or fixing up their room on the ship, there are a variety of stories to follow within this beautiful game.

TW: If you have epilepsy or any sort of light sensitivity, I don’t recommend this game. From research, this should have mods on Steam available to dim how bright parts of the game can get when it’s flashing but since I own this on my Nintendo Switch, I’ve had to take breaks to avoid getting dizzy. It’s also super sad if you are dealing with any beginning stage of grief.

Toem

This super cute point-and-click puzzle game takes you on a hike around the mountain to see a phenomenon called “Toem”. Though you’ll have to engage with the towns the bus stops at to gain enough tokens for traveling.

The cosmic wheel sisterhood

Fortuma, an exiled witch, is given a chance to regain her freedom. Though the custom-crafted tarot decks you can make within the game have the ability to change every step of this path.

Honestly, I have no plans of getting out of my horror-themed mood until right before Christmas, so this took me a while to prepare. I will probably be rewatching the movies I recommended while setting up my Animal Crossing island for the January update!
