With styles constantly changing, especially through different social media trends, it’s hard to stay on top of everything ‘trendy’ and ‘stylish’. Why stick to what you see on your phone screen when you can upgrade your style in your own way? Being ‘stylish’ today isn’t about following the trends, even though we all can feel the need to. To truly be ‘stylish’, you have to be comfortable with your own style, how you want to dress, or the colors you wear. Instead of trying to change how you present yourself so you can blend in, try sticking to your style but updating your wardrobe.
When it comes to updating your style, I don’t mean getting all new clothes or changing every characteristic of your aesthetic. Subtle changes, such as layering or accessories, can boost any outfit. With fall arriving sooner than some of us would like, focusing on warmer outfits is also important.
Let’s check out how to improve style, rather than replacing it.
- Denim, Denim, Denim
- Find your favorite outfit and examine every article of clothing in it. What could use a change? Try swapping out leggings and sweatpants with your favorite pair of jeans. If sticking to trends is important to you, try baggy jeans, wide-leg, or even barrel jeans. Swapping a simple tank top for a denim vest. Denim can be added anywhere, which can dramatically boost outfit appeal.

- Knit All the Way
- With fall coming up, we all want to stay warm. Sweaters have always been a fall statement piece, which, by adding your favorite one to an outfit, can bring more warmth, comfort, and confidence. If you’re looking to stay on trend, bright-colored sweaters are becoming increasingly popular. No matter the color or style of the sweater, the texture can add more detail to the outfit.

- Big, Baggy, and Max Comfort
- Though style can be seen through outfits where appearance is more valued than comfort, as students and even professors, comfort should be a key focus. We all have to make long, hasty walks, whether it’s from Muse Hall to Bonnie or parking across the bridge to get to Kyle (which sounds like a nightmare). Bring comfort into your style so those long walks aren’t as dreadful. Try adding baggy clothes, like an oversized sweatshirt over your favorite t-shirt. If you prefer a more fitting top, try form-fitting sweats that are open-legged. This allows a more flowy look and more comfort. No matter how you decide to add it, just make sure you’re comfortable.

Fun little switches to our styles can be fun, even thrilling, but always remember to dress how you want. Maybe these fun tips can help with some fun outfit changes and updates. These simple suggestions can bring out more fun, but expressing yourself in your own unique way will always be more important. Be whoever you want to be, dress however you want.
