For over a decade, billions of fans, including myself, have been listening to The Weeknd. His first release, “House of Balloons”, was the original album that started it all back in 2011. His most recently released “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is his final goodbye to his fans as The Weeknd.
The album contains a total of 22 songs. He plans to begin releasing music by his name, Abel Tesfaye, in the future. That is the reasoning of this being the end of The Weeknd. For me, this album held so many emotions.
With each song, I relived the past 10 years of his music.
An Overall Review of the Album
After listening through the entire album multiple times, and even relistening to my favorites, I’ve concluded my opinion on the album. Within the album as a whole, each song transitions perfectly to the next one, if you listen in order.
The way each song is set up, it feels as if you’re listening to a long song, rather than multiple songs in a list. The beat and tone throughout the album were superior and some even tied in older songs that he previously released.
The ending of the album, which was the song also labeled “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, seemed the most emotional to me. It was truly his final emotional goodbye, and you could tell because he wrote that song entirely himself.
Though this is one of my favorite albums, I don’t know if it will ever beat House of Balloons or Kissland for me. Though it will forever be iconic.
My Top Five Songs from the Album
5. Give Me Mercy
This song spoke to me through the lyrics, it felt very relatable. If you feel beaten down, or like someone is tearing you done, this song describes it perfectly. It also gives a parallel of loving that person hurting you because you also hurt them.
4. Given Up On Me
This song portrays such toxic love, from the perspective of the person giving that bad love. The beat and melody tie well to it. Overall, I had to include it in my top five.
3. Enjoy The Show (ft. Future)
This song truly shows the longing for love and acceptance. The Weeknd’s music has always been give or take, so it depends on everyone.
2. Cry for Me
An iconic song, all I can think of is he ATE with this one.
1. Baptized in Fear
This song is on replay, with no breaks, and total silence. I use this song as therapy, I think I could lay on the ground and be happy if this was playing.
