Wishlists and Delusion: Day Dreaming About Having Free Time

In between homework assignments in this hectic semester, I’ve been carving out space for my hobbies a little better. And while I have been enjoying crocheting, watching films, playing Caravan Sandwitch on my switch, and even picking up cross-stitching again. But because of that new arrangement of my time, I’ve gotten into a reading slump and cannot remember the last time I picked up a novel I truly enjoyed.

However, that has not stopped me from making a list and daydreaming about when I’ll be caught up on homework and can pick up a new story without feeling like I’m missing an assignment. I’m hoping that sharing a part of that list would give me some motivation towards Spring break.

Infinity Alchemist – Kacen Callender

After getting rejected from a top mage college, Ash picks up a job as a groundskeeper on campus to learn alchemy secretly. However, a student catches him and makes a deal: she helps Ash learn in exchange for his aid in finding a powerful relic. From the way the rest of the Goodreads synopsis goes, there are a lot of enemies along this journey.

Instead of finishing the series I have been in the middle of for a while, I have been tempted to start another one. The cover is just so pretty and while magic schools are not my thing, Creepy school environment, queer rep, and quests are.

The Three Lives of Cate Kay – Kate Fagen

Cate Kay, a beloved and mysterious author, doesn’t exist. The person who made her up surely is, having never shown up for interviews or author events when her award winning novels got adapted into a movie. The woman behind Cate as a concept starts to think back on the life that led her to this moment and maybe reveal her true identity to others outside of the one person she used to trust.

This one was released back in January and I’ve been staring at it on my shelves ever since. Currently discussing with my best friends if it should be our next book club pick and I’m hoping it wins the poll.

Thislefoot – GennaRose Nethercott

Estranged siblings inherit a sentient house with chicken legs. Bellatine Yaga wants to keep it, while her brother, Isaac, wants to sell it. So they come to an agreement: If they raise enough money from running an old traveling show their parents used to do, Isaac will sell his half of the house to Bellatine. They’re also being chased by a shadowy figure at every stop.

I love stories about the Baba Yaga. When I first started reading this last year, I actually got so excited about the way this plot was going that I put it back on the shelves and then never picked it back up. Now I’ll have to start from the beginning but I don’t mind at all. I might have a rewatch of Dimension 20’s Never After playing in the background too.

While I own two of these options, I might have to just borrow the audiobook from the library to be able to get to them during this semester. It would definitely be better for focusing on my papers as I write. But it does have the potential to cause an even bigger distraction. Totally worth it.
