Impractical Jokers: Who’s Practically the Best?

Impractical Jokers: Who’s Practically the Best?

John Ratliff II

Impractical Jokers is a reality comedy TV show that started in 2011 by a group of 4 friends from Staten Island, New York. These friends and hosts are Joe Gatto, Sal Vulcano, James “Murr” Murray, and Brian “Q” Quinn. The concept of the show is that the “jokers” prank their friends, usually one at a time, by having them do challenges in public, and if they refuse or lose, then they become “tonight’s biggest loser” and must face a punishment. The show has become super popular, and you may have even seen a clip or segment from the show online in a funny video without even knowing it. The show is still running today and is currently in its 12th season, and I would recommend anyone to pick up this show just to laugh.

With almost every show, the audience has a favorite member, and Impractical Jokers fans are no different, and are very defensive over their favorite Jokers. Over the years, all the jokers have had their ups, downs, wins, losses, and most importantly, funniest moments. I will be presenting some of the best qualities and even some cons to attempt to give an unbiased showcase of the jokers so you can decide who your favorite is!

Q, “Hey Mustache, what’s up?”

Brian “Q” Quinn is the heart and arguably the looks of the show. Before and during the early seasons of the show, he was a firefighter and was also battling depression. In the early seasons, Q seemed very different than the other jokers, being quieter and would even refuse to do many of the challenges. He revealed that he was depressed and suicidal, and through the help of friends, especially Sal, he recovered and felt more comfortable and freer on the show. Q is behind Joe for the fewest number of losses on the show. Some of Q’s best moments include when he opposed all feminist remarks at a sisterhood, only responding with “no” when being proposed to on a baseball field, eating the food at a donation center, being attacked by outlaws in a saloon, “So gets to licken,” removing stripper children from the mind during meditation, being hit on by all his co-workers as a receptionists, and his tattoo he got as a punishment which says “38, Lives Alone, Has 3 Cats.”

Murr, “I want my mommy!”

I will try to avoid bias, but James “Murr” Murray is my personal favorite Joker. Murr is objectively the funniest member, whether it’s because of his bald head or how well he can take the others’ jokes and challenges. He is nicknamed “Ferret” by the others because of his looks, which honestly change quite frequently. Murr’s hair is usually receding, but for a whole season, he wore a wig of Q’s hair and had to wear it for the whole season, and changed his ID picture to that look. Another time, he had his head completely shaved, including his eyebrows, and had that as his ID picture. Murr has recently been blowing up on TikTok due to videos of him singing, like him at a T-Pain concert singing “Blame It On” or him singing “Pink Pony Club” in front of a crowd. Murr is just behind Sal for the most losses and objectively faces the cruelest punishments on the show, such as getting a prostate exam in front of a crowd, skydiving with a fear of heights, being beaten as a human piñata, and getting his nipples pierced. Some of Murr’s best moments include presenting a real naked man at an art exhibit, “Show of hands, what year were you born,” “Like a bossss,” “Ninnies on the glass,” married Sal’s sister, recording a pianist ON stage, and “I’m not leaving here until I have a tan like yours.”

Sal, “I will never forgive you!”

Sal Vulcano is probably the most iconic of the jokers and must have the most viral clips and memes of himself sent around. There was a bad picture of him taken that became a meme a while ago, and some college students probably have it as their tapestry. Recently, he was blowing up on TikTok for his “Tanka Jahari” try not to laugh challenge and for an interview he did with a child who asked him why he isn’t joining the army. Besides being a joker on the show, he is a comedian and has many comedy tours and shows, even collaborating with a favorite influencer of mine, Dax Flame. Sal has a strange fear of cats, so he is often faced with cat-related punishments. After one punishment, he had to get a tattoo of Jaden Smith on his thigh, and 5 years later, got another one on his other thigh. Unfortunately, Sal is the biggest loser, with the most losses in the show. Some of Sal’s best moments include falling to the floor laughing, his dance “the Double Dutch,” yelling BINGO and being cussed out by the elderly, help a cow give birth, have cats crawl all over him, lick a lollipop that kids have licked and drink breast milk as a pirate, “come with me if you want to live,” chanting “LETS GET SEXY!” at a baseball game, “Dr. Shrimp Puerto Rico?” “Where are all the white women at?” and his sassy moments at an auto parts store, bowling, and trying to use the phone.

Joe, “LARRYYY!”

Joe Gatto is the boldest of the jokers. At least he was until he quit the show in 2021. He had things going on in his personal life with his family, and he needed to spend more time helping raise his daughter. Recently, Joe was in a controversy regarding sexual assault and harassment towards two women who worked on the show, to which he denied those claims. While on the show, Joe was seen as the most shameless of the jokers, and so it was very rare that he would lose challenges. While he isn’t on the show, people can assume that he would most likely have the fewest losses among the group even now. Joe had an appetite on the show and was often seen eating while pranking, once consuming a dozen cannoli in a single scene. He wore very basic outfits in the show, but his most iconic look was his lavender shirt. Some of Joe’s best moments include screaming at Larry, dressed as a woman, to reveal a new app, “Obama, Obama,” “Are you cat calling me? Yeah,” “Scoopski potatoes,” riding a lift as Captain Fatbelly and telling other boroughs to suck it, dressed as a genie and smashing the set of a play, eating a sandwich out of the trash off the floor, fighting a sumo wrestler dressed as a baby, shooting his own clothes into a crowd with a t-shirt cannon, and many challenges where he would undress.
