I am a routine lover. I love consistency in my schedule and having a productive day. I recently decided to spice up my routine to allow for more time to study during the day and to spend more time on my hobbies. This is when an idea struck me: I should get AI to write me a daily routine that incorporates all of my goals.
The rise in AI has become abundantly clear. I, as an English major, see the conflicts that AI brings. Although it can write papers and do analysis, I do not believe that it will take a great deal number of jobs like non-English majors believe. Other majors try to us AI to write their papers for them, but us English majors are aware that AI technology cannot replicate the human voice.
One thing that I do believe AI can do, is be used as a resource for our own health and a tool for time management. I decided, when creating my new daily routine, to use AI as a resource to write out a schedule for me. I asked AI to write an hourly schedule for myself that incorporates my class schedule, the number of hours I want to spend a day working on homework, the different goals I have (exercising, reading for pleasure, and spending time on my hobbies) and sleeping a good 8 hours a night. This is what I typed into ChatGPT to make my schedule:
Write me an hourly schedule that incorporates 5 hours of studying, classes from ___-___ and ___-___, an hour for exercise, 8 hours of sleep, and an hour for reading for pleasure.
This gave me a detailed hourly schedule. If I didn’t like something about this schedule, I can ask for revisions that would include more specific things.
Overall, I find that AI is a great tool for creating a daily schedule that allows for effective time management. AI is not a replacement for the human mind, but it can be used to harness the mind’s full potential.
For the readers’ convenience, I have included a sample schedule that can be used for anyone.
Morning:
- Wake Up: Start the day around 8 AM, feeling well-rested after a good night’s sleep.
- Breakfast: Enjoy a delicious breakfast, maybe a smoothie or avocado toast, while listening to a favorite podcast or playlist.
- Classes: Attend engaging classes where professors inspire lively discussions, and you connect with classmates.
Afternoon:
- Lunch: Grab lunch at a cozy campus café with friends, sharing laughs and catching up.
- Study Session: Spend a productive afternoon studying or working on a group project in a sunny spot on campus or a favorite library.
- Extracurriculars: Participate in a club meeting or activity that you’re passionate about, whether it’s sports, art, or volunteering.
Evening:
- Dinner: Have a fun dinner, either cooking with roommates or going out to a local eatery with friends.
- Relaxation: Unwind by watching a movie, playing video games, or going for a walk around campus to enjoy the scenery.
- Social Time: End the day with a gathering or event, like a bonfire, trivia night, or just hanging out at someone’s dorm.
Night:
- Reflect: Take a moment to relax before bed, maybe journaling about the day or reading a good book.
- Sleep: Hit the hay at a reasonable hour, feeling fulfilled and excited for tomorrow.
